I Won’t Flog Street Traders – My Words Were Misunderstood – Kumasi Mayor

The newly appointed Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman, popularly known as King Zuba, has clarified that he has no intention of flogging traders operating on streets and pavements.

Instead, he emphasized that he will evict them to restore order in the city.

Speaking on Nkwantannanso with Commander Kofi Boakye on Opemsuo Radio on April 16, 2025, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) boss stated that his earlier remarks were misinterpreted, painting him as a bully.

He noted that his goal is simply to enforce city regulations and improve Kumasi’s cleanliness.

According to him, the state of Adum—one of Kumasi’s busiest commercial areas—is currently unacceptable, and there is an urgent need to clear traders from pavements and roadsides.

King Zuba stressed that his actions are driven by the need for a cleaner and more organized environment for both residents and visitors.
