I Won’t Feature In Movies Without Good Moral lessons-Martha Ankomah
Ghanaian actress Martha Ankomah has posited that she has restrained herself from featuring in movies unless they are meaningful and convey good moral lessons to the youth.
In an interview, she said the self-imposing restraint has resulted in the rejection of numerous movie roles in the country and beyond, accounting for her limited appearances in movies recently.
“I won’t feature in any movie without any good moral lesson. Recently, a Nigerian sent me a script. After reading the script, I was bold enough to tell the person the story doesn’t make sense. I was honest with him.”
According to the 37-year-old, that wasn’t the first time she rejected a movie role for the same reason.
“That wasn’t my first time telling that to a producer. I have said that to a lot of producers. People don’t really see me in a lot of movies recently because if the movie doesn’t make any sense, I won’t show up for it. If it does make sense, I will show up for it.”
Legal Suit
Martha is now in the news after taking legal action against her colleague in the Ghanaian movie industry, Kwadwo Nkansah known as Lil Win for defamation.
She is seeking GHC5million from Lil Win after he took to his Facebook page to insult and describe her as disrespectful and arrogant over her cause for rejecting a recent Kumawood movie role offered to her by Director Fiifi Gharbin.
Lil Win found her cause derogatory while Martha found his action defamatory.
Among her demands are GH¢5 million for the defamatory statements; compensatory damages for the damage done to her reputation; aggravated damages for the reckless and malicious publication of the defamatory words; and an order directing the defendant to publish an apology and a retraction of the said defamatory words with the same prominence.
