I Will Establish Greater Kumasi Industrial City – Alan Kyerematen
Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Alan Kyerematen, has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish the “Greater Kumasi Industrial City” in Ejisu if elected as president in the 2024 general election. He cited the need for increased job opportunities in the Ashanti Region, which serves as the confluence of all the regions in Ghana.
“Even if you look at Bukina Faso, Mali, Niger, their headquarters is Kumasi. So if government wants to develop Ghana, then Ashanti Region should be the next major place for production and manufacturing. So this Greater Kumasi Industrial Project will be the biggest.”
In an interview on Opemsuo Radio’s Nkwantannanso with Kofi Boakye on October 3, Alan expressed concern about the current job scarcity in the Ashanti Region, noting that once-thriving industries like Kumasi Brewery, Coca-Cola, and a shoe factory have disappeared.
He revealed that Ejisuhene, has committed to providing over 5,000 acres of land for the Greater Kumasi Industrial City project.
Alan was originally set to lead this initiative before his departure from the NPP.
It’s worth mentioning that earlier this year, Alan Kyerematen visited the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to introduce the Greater Kumasi Industrial City and Special Economic Zone initiative.
The project, backed by the World Bank with an initial investment of USD 30 million, aims to develop off-site infrastructure and attract private sector investment.
Kyerematen recently left the NPP after 31 years of membership to pursue an independent bid for the country’s presidency in the 2024 elections.
His decision was influenced by allegations of intimidation of his supporters, “controversial and contentious” decisions by NPP leadership, and accusations of leadership hijacking within the party.
