I Vowed to Give Mahama Needed Space to Settle and Tackle Important Business- Bawumia

Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has disclosed that he vowed to draw back to give the new President the needed serenity to take over the country and get to work after losing the December Presidential polls.

The distance was to afford the new head of state the needed space to get a hold of things and settle down quickly to tackle the important business of governance, and by extension nation building, he said.

“This statement is released against a personal vow I made since leaving office.”
In a Facebook post, he said it was a personal commitment he made after realizing the magnitude of weight the mandate carries, having worked as the veep.

“Having been Vice President for the past eight years, I have come to appreciate the enormity of the task; a task that requires that those entrusted with the responsibility of governance, especially the President, get the needed support and composure to implement their vision for the betterment of our dear country.”

The former Vice President broke the vow to appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to rescind and reverse the directive to revoke the appointment of public sector workers employed at the final moments of the immediate past president.

He observes that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has persistently targeted Ghanaians who gained legitimate appointments during the NPP tenure.

Dr Bawumia argued that the incumbent government after campaigning to create jobs for the teeming youth, shouldn’t be spearheading such dismissals.

“It is ironic that a party which campaigned on the wings of jobs for all Ghanaians is arbitrarily dismissing the same Ghanaians, rendering them jobless, just because a different government employed them to put their talents to bear on the nation’s development and earn income to cater for themselves and their families.”
According to him, the vote for change by Ghanaians in the 2024 Presidential election reflected the will of citizen’s desire to correct all wrongs in governance and not to be subjected to the same by the new government.
