I Stand Fulfilled To Lead Ghana’s Largest Majority- Mahama Ayariga

The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has stated that he is prepared to lead the 187 National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmakers in Ninth Parliament.

“I stand fulfilled today as the man to lead the largest majority in the history of our 4th Republic,” he said as he confirmed his appointment to succeed Cassiel Ato Forson as the Majority Leader.

According to him, his experience has been drawn from his 20-year work in Parliament alongside leadership precedents set by former leaders including Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, Hon. Cletus Avoka, Hon. Benjamin Kunbuor, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, and Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson.

He noted that their leadership styles will stand as his guideposts.

“As President John Dramani Mahama has said, these overwhelming numbers will not be abused. Even though we are an overwhelming majority, we will strive for inclusivity, and consensus building and deeply uphold the principles of probity and accountability in the fulfilment of the dreams of our founding fathers. We will foster national unity, advance democracy and ensure equitable development.”

Though he is certain that there will be hurdles, he intends to use constructive dialogue and mutual respect to overcome them.

Ayariga was formally appointed by the party on January 23, 2025, after the swearing-in of Ato Forson as Finance Minister.

In his statement, he accepted the appointment and expressed gratitude to the President and the party for the confidence reposed in him.

Mahama Ayariga first joined Parliament in 2005 and has been out of parliament once. He however staged a return.

He has previously served as an Assemblyman for Sabongari in Bawku Municipality, served in the Office of the President, and served as a Deputy Minister of State and a Minister of State.
