I Leave With Immense Pride – Former Lions Coach Tanko

Former head coach of Accra Lions, Ibrahim Tanko, says he is inundated with pride as he looks back at his work at the Accra-based club.

According to him, he built a family out of the club, a feat he said he is very proud of.

“I leave the role with immense pride, knowing that Accra Lions is more than just a club—it is family.

“While I am stepping away to focus on other projects, my bond with the team remains strong, and I will always be available to support the club in any way,” Tanko told the club media in an interview.

The club in a statement on January 15, 2025, announced the departure of the gaffer, saying it was on mutual grounds.

Expressing gratitude to him, it said, “Ibrahim Tanko has been a key pillar of our club, and we are deeply grateful for his contributions. The door will always remain open for him to return and play a role in our journey of developing talent and achieving success.”

Tanko left the team next to bottom of the league log, holding 13 points from 16 games. They have won just one of the last 12 league games.

His role has been taken over by German trainer Rainer Kraft under whose leadership the club secured a premier league promotion.

“He returns with vast experience and an understanding of our club’s mission to nurture talent and compete at the highest level in the Ghana Premier League.”
