I Hope Toyota Cup Match Will Advance Football- Asantehene

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, expects the upcoming Toyota Cup between Asante Kotoko SC and Kaizer Chiefs FC to have a positive impact on African football.
This, His Majesty said, could result from further collaborations between the two football giants on the African continent.
“I hope this will bring Kotoko and Kaizer Chiefs together, and I’m sure we will have a collaboration in advancing football and bring South Africa and Ghana together,” Otumfuo said during a courtesy call by officials from Kaizer Chiefs on July 16, 2025.
The officials from South Africa were at the Manhyia Palace purposely to formally inform His Majesty about the game.
In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Kabelo Bosilogo, expressed gratitude to the King for the reception, adding that hosting Kotoko was a privilege.
“On behalf of the Chairman of Kaizer Chiefs, we would like to officially invite you to the Toyota Cup next week. It would be an honour for us to host Asante Kotoko. The two clubs have very rich histories in football in Africa.”
He underscored the desire for the partnership between the two clubs to extend beyond the field.
“For us, this is an exciting match, and we hope to work together on exciting projects in the future to assist one another. We wish to be enemies on the pitch, but off the field, we should be partners.”
The delegation included club legends Stanton Fredericks and Siyabonga Eugene Nomvethe.
The one-off game is slated for July 26, 2025.
