I have a Plan- Alan
The leader of the Movement for Change and independent presidential aspirant, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen says he has a plan to reset Ghana on a path of economic recovery, independence and development.
According to him, the plan branded Great Transformational Plan (GTP) will transform the fortunes of the country- what the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have failed to do despite being in charge of the country for the past 32 years.
Launching the said plan on Monday, June 24, 2024, the former Trades Minister who defected from the governing NPP stated, “67 years after the shackles of colonialism was dismantled, Ghana our beloved country is still unable to feed itself, unable to provide jobs for our young population, unable to provide potable water for almost half of its population, unable to keep our lights on, unable to provide decent housing for the majority of its people and I could go on and on. We have been compelled for the 17th time to seek a bailout from the IMF, although we pride ourselves as one of the leading producers of gold in the world.”
He believes Ghana’s economic woes are self-made as he pointed to leadership failure, divisiveness in the political space as well as unproductive attitude, behaviour and mindset of the people as the cause.
He noted, “What we need now is a transformational leader, a paradigm shift in our government system as well as a mindset change among Ghanaians.”
National Unity
Unlike the two major political parties, Alan says he will run a government of national unity that will mobilise the collective strength and talents of all Ghanaians and not only a privileged few irrespective of ethnic, political or religious affiliation.
“Both the NDC and the NPP have had the opportunity of being in charge of this country for the last 32 years. I believe in all sincerity that they have exhausted their competency and capabilities and ought not to be restored or retained in power considering the fact that they have not demonstrated either by word or deed that they have any plan for Ghana.
“Five months to a general election, we are still waiting for the manifestos of our two leading political parties. Between the two leading parties, they have, over the three decades they have been in power, resorted to extensive borrowing to finance their manifesto promises.”
According to him, their taste for borrowing accounts for the economic mess since a significant component of the loans they acquired have gone into financing consumption, the repayment of existing loans and investment in social services which do not generate any economic returns in the immediate short to medium term and therefore limit our capacity
Plan
Unveiling his plan, the aspiring Presidential Candidate said it will groom Ghana into an enterprise economy, focusing on private enterprise, innovation and unleashing the entrepreneurial spirit of Ghanaians.
“I have a plan, the Great Transformational Plan,” he announced as the game-changer.
He touted, “This is what will take Ghana forward to occupy its rightful place in the Committee of Nations as the black stars of Africa, the shining star of Africa and the first country in Sub-Sahara to become independent. It will move Ghana from instability to stability to growth to resilience and to prosperity.”
He explained that the GTP is comprised of six interrelated clusters: economic, governance, infrastructure, social services, environment, natural resource management and behavioural and mindset change.
