I Don’t Have Full Authority to Implement Now; Bawumia on Promises
Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamaudu Bawumia says he seeks to win power to implement his ideas for economic reforms and development.
According to him, he lacks the authority to steer the country’s economic affairs as he pleases since he only occupies the Vice President position and acts on the instructions of the President.
This was in response to a query by a journalist about why he was waiting to get elected as President to implement a new tax regime.
“I don’t have full authority. The budget that has gone to Parliament, which has been passed, is not my budget, is it my budget? Is not my budget. The budget goes in the name of the President, doesn’t go in the name of the vice president. But when you have to think about what new do you want to do?”
He also indicated that all projects cannot be accomplished by an individual government and therefore room for continuation.
“I mean, how can you do everything now, even President Mahama, the former President. Who was president- I’m only vice president, but he was president- why didn’t he do everything then? I mean, why is he coming back? He had full authority.”
The Vice President engaged the media on Sunday, August 25, 2024, exactly a week after the NPP launched their manifesto.
