I Do Not See Why AAMUSTED Should Not Succeed- Asantehene
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II projects the Akenteng Appiah-Minka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) to be among the leading national and global universities in the few years ahead.
According to the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, the mandate of the institution is critical to solving a pressing national and gobal problem- umemployment- as well as development.
Speaking at the investiture of the first Vice-Chancellor (VC) of AAMUSTED, Prof Fredrick Kwaku Sarfo, on May 26, 2023, he said this alone was an opportunity and enough for the University to succeed.
“I do not see why AAMUSTED Should not succeed. I’m confident that in no time, AAMUSTED should run prominently among major universities in Ghana and beyond,” he said.
He, therefore, encouraged stakeholders to work tirelessly to achieve the desired success.
“I encourage you {Vice Chancellor} to build the capacity of your faculty, review your programmes regularly and engage in joint research. Share research findings with government in industry, work hard to make your programmes and faculties relevant in addressing national and global needs, ensure prudent management and efficient utilisation of resources, encourage cooperation and teamwork among administration, faculty and students body.”
Pledging his support for the University, he urged the government to demonstrate commitment to resourcing AAMUSTED.
Asantehene was the guest of honour for the event which was held at the campus of the University at Tanoso in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.
About the University
The Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), was established on August 27, 2020, under Act 1026 of 2020 of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana after over a decade of advocacy by Asantehene.
It was once the University of Education, Winneba campus for the College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK).
It has the mandate of providing higher education in technical, vocational, and entrepreneurial training to develop skilled manpower for job creation and economic development; training and providing teachers with the relevant competence for teaching in technical and vocational education and training institutions; training and providing teachers with the relevant competence for teaching entrepreneurial development, and; developing strong linkages between the University and industry, or the community, to ensure the holistic training of teachers.
