I Didn’t Grow up In an Affluent Home- Nikki Samonas
Nikoletta Samonas popularly known as Nikki Samonas, has thrown some light on her life story, divulging she grew up in an impoverished home, contrary to public perceptions about persons of her calibre.
Despite being born to a rich Greek dad, Nikki disclosed her life took a different turn when he died at the age of 10 years.
“From my background, I’m sure people think I’m coming from a good home. Most half-castes are coming from good homes. Not me. I’ve been through a lot. Fortunately for me, I did have a very rich father but he died when I was 10 so life took a turn…When he died, I was hopping from home to home,” she said on Ladies Circle on TV3.
According to her, the turn of life hit their family by surprise with her mother certainly unprepared.
“Had my mother prepared herself, I don’t think I would have gone through half of the things I went through.”
Growing up, she said, she had wanted to work for the United Nations (UN), a dream she has seen come true but never envisioned herself in the limelight.
“I never ever thought I would end up in the limelight. For me, I wanted to work with the UN. That is the one thing that I wanted to do that I have actually seen come to life as the UN ambassador for refugees. I learned some languages because I wanted to work for the UN but if anybody had told me {I would end up in the limelight}, I would have used my head for it.”
