How Asantehene Resolved the Complex Dome Keniago Dispute

On Monday, January 27, 2025, the Kumasi Traditional Council presided over by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, heard the complex narrative of how one family head identified as Opanin Osei Yeboah had the Great Oath invoked against him by multiple individuals who opposed his authority to elect a candidate to the Dome Keniago stool.
All the invokers- while laying claim to the stool- individually disclaimed each other’s legitimacy to the stool with the Great Oath.
The Asantehene recalled the case on February 10, 2025, at another Council meeting where he put the case to rest.
The King streamlined the process by condensing the complex case into a simpler one through his investigations into the family tree related to the stool.
The stool was created for the descendants of the three wives of one Komfo Mensah who migrated to Asante from Akyem Asuomi and moved from one place to another until he settled at Keniago- place whose name came about after the priest was located by a man he was owing, the Asantehene recounted.
He took three wives namely Yaa Asantewaa, Ano Saa and Sumamaa, His Majesty narrated.
Otumfuo furthered with a list of the names of the descendants of the three women who had ascended the Keniago Stool and then a list of seven others who along the line had infiltrated into the royal line to occupy the stool without being descendants of any of the three.
“From the list each one of you laying claim to the stool know your stance now, whether your predecessors was indeed a royal or not. Now go back and get me a candidate for the stool,” he judged.
