How a Seemingly Distant Prophecy About Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s Ascension Came to Pass

A prophecy was delivered about the ascension of the female stool of the Asante Kingdom by Nana Ama Konadu, as her Majesty was called.

This prophecy came in the mid-1990s, from Kwaku Firi Bosomfo, the priest of Kwaku Firi, and was declared through Baffour Akoto, a Senior Linguist of the Asantehene.

As pleasant as it sounded, it seemed practically impossible given the hierarchical nature of traditional succession.

This, however, became a reality on February 6, 2017, following the death of the 13th Queen of the Kingdom, who was also her mother.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III became her stool name.

The prophecy that had seemed so distant had come to pass, validating the spiritual dimensions of Asante traditional leadership.

Brief Profile
Nana Konadu YIADOM III, born as Nana Ama Konadu in 1927 at the sacred Benyaade Shrine in Merdan, a small town in Kwadaso, Kumasi, entered the world during the critical period of the Asante Confederacy’s restoration.

Her birth itself seemed prophetic, occurring at a shrine that would later symbolise the spiritual foundation of her remarkable journey to the apex of Asante traditional authority.

She was the first child of the 13th Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who reigned as Asantehemaa from 1977 to 2016.

Her Majesty passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, at her residence.
