Hon Akandoh Accuses Deputy EC of Attempt to Rig Juaboso Elections
The Member of Parliament for Juaboso constituency Hon Kwabena Minta Akandoh, has accused the Deputy commissioner of the Electoral Commission in charge of corporate services Dr Bossman Asare of attempting to rig the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate.
Addressing journalists in his constituency, Hon Akandoh says, “With barely a month to the general elections the EC had chosen to abandon its constitutional role as a neutral referee and behaving as agent of NPP.”
He revealed that the recent development is not only disgraceful but to the principle of fairness, transparency, and justice that underline Ghana’s democracy.
“Our investigations showsl clearly that the EC officer has been transferred and Dr Asare Bossman has taken over and immediately begun appointing known NPP delegates as polling officers, and some of these polling officers are openly endorsing the NPP flagbearer Dr Bawumia and his parliamentary candidate, they also shamelessly post videos of themselves participating in NPP political rallies and dancing to Bawumia campaign songs and more shocking is the evidence that some are active members of the parliamentary candidate for Juaboso campaign team and are also deeply embedded in political wattsap platforms with the candidate,” he revealed.
He also accused the EC of engaging in blatant irregularities during the last voter transfer exercises where the EC supervised illegal transfer to certain constituencies in a grand scheme of gerrymandering without following the legally mandated process and is calculated to tilt the electoral playing field in favour of the NPP.
Hon Akandoh questioned the EC for failing to provide names, photographs, and other details of presiding officers and polling assistants at the district office and this he described as violations of constitutional instrument 127( C.I 127), which governs the conduct of the elections. Regulation 19(6)(a&b) requires the EC to publish the names and photographs of the presiding office. However, the list published in Juaboso includes no photographs.
The MP demands immediately removal of open partisan NPP polling officers whose affiliation compromises their neutrality, demand the correction of all irregularities in the list of polling officers, ensuring individual, verification phone numbers for every officer, and publication of an update list of polling officers which includes photographs in compliance with C.I 127.
