Hohoe United Shockingly Withdraw from Ghana Premier League

Ghana Premier League side Hohoe United have taken the shock decision to withdraw from the ongoing 2025/26 season.

The club’s historic debut campaign in the topflight has come to an abrupt end with several matches still to be played.

Hohoe United currently sit in 17th position on the league table with 30 points.

In an official statement released after an emergency board meeting, the club announced their decision to pull out of the competition.

“The Board of Hohoe United Football Club, after an emergency meeting held today, has arrived at the difficult decision to withdraw the club from the ongoing 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

This decision will be communicated officially to the Ghana Football Association,” the statement read.

Club officials cited a series of frustrations that have worsened their situation, particularly a disciplinary ruling they consider harsh and poorly timed, as well as concerns over officiating and the handling of their matches.

At the heart of the matter is a three-match home ban imposed on the club for failing to ensure adequate security during an earlier incident at the Hohoe Sports Stadium. The sanction was handed down late in the season, at a critical stage where every point is vital in the relegation battle.

The timing of the ban has left Hohoe United deeply frustrated. Of their 30 points accumulated so far, 20 have come from home games, showing how important home advantage has been to their survival fight.

With the ban in force, the club will now play only one of their remaining seven matches at their home venue. The other six fixtures are scheduled away from Hohoe, even in cases where they are nominally the home side.

Club officials argue that this imbalance has severely damaged their chances of avoiding relegation and played a major role in their decision to withdraw from the league.

The Ghana Football Association is yet to issue an official response to the development.
