Ho Central Mosque Temporarily Closed for Two Weeks Following Leadership Dispute
The Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC), in consultation with the Ministry of Interior, has mandated the temporary closure of the Ho Central Mosque for two weeks, beginning Thursday, 1st January 2026. The directive comes amid a dispute between two individuals claiming the position of Regional Chief Imam.
In a statement signed by James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, REGSEC said the location under dispute has been declared a crime scene to facilitate further investigations until a permanent resolution is reached.
The minister emphasized that the closure is aimed at maintaining peace, unity, and long-term stability within the Muslim community in Ho. “The temporary closure will provide a calm and neutral environment to facilitate mediation efforts aimed at resolving ongoing disputes and restoring harmony among all parties involved,” he said.
REGSEC also appealed to the feuding factions to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue. “The safety of worshippers, the sanctity of the mosque, and the unity of the community remain our highest priorities. We are confident that with cooperation, mutual respect, and sincere commitment to peace, the Ho Central Mosque will soon reopen to serve its rightful purpose as a place of worship, unity, and spiritual growth for all,” the statement added.
The Regional Security Council stressed that peaceful dialogue remains the most effective tool for resolving differences and urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully during this period.
