Highways Authority Rallies Public Assistance to Fight Theft

The Ghana Highways Authority has entreated Ghanaians to report all incidents of road infrastructure theft to help fight the menace.

It comes after Buzstopboys released a video that captured exposed reinforcement steel on the retaining wall near the Tantra Hill underpass on the Achimota- Ofankor road (N6).

The Authority’s assessment revealed spalling in a localized area of the retaining wall, which exposed the rebars and led to their theft by unscrupulous individuals.

In a statement, the Authority condemned the act, noting that it is a criminal offence punishable by law under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI 2180), section 114 (4)(b).

“We strongly condemn this act of vandalism.”

It further rallied the support of the masses to fight the trend.

“We urge all residents and commuters to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities around public infrastructure to the nearest police station or the Public Affairs Division of the Ghana Highway Authority.”

Meanwhile, it assured the public that the underpass remains structurally sound and safe for all users.

It added that repairs would be carried out shortly to prevent further deterioration.
