High Court Remands KNUST Lecturer Into Prison Custody For Wife Disapperance
Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey, a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been remanded into prison custody by the Kumasi High court over the disappearance of the administrator for Ashanti regional Lands Commission, Mrs. Rhodaline Amoah-Darko, who is his wife.
The lecturer who was earlier charged with kidnapping by the Asokwa District Court and remanded into the Oforikrom Police custody, had the charge dropped after new charges of kidnapping and Deception of a Public Officer was filed against him at the Kumasi High Court.
He is said to have allegedly deceived a public officer by going to the police with the complaint that his wife had been kidnapped and “forging” notes and SMSs suggesting the same.
Efforts by his councillors to secure his bail failed with the reason that granting him bail will compromise investigations.
Meanwhile, a bench warrant has been issued against two individuals; Yaw Boateng and Justice Appiah, connected to the case but failed to appear in court today.
The cell phone of Rhodaline, an Infinix, was traced to Justice Appiah who says he bought phone from Yaw Boateng. He later led investigators to Yaw Boateng who indicated that he chanced on the cell phone in a vehicle.
Background
The news about Rhodaline’s disappearance was reported to the police on 2nd September 2021 with the information that the victim had been kidnapped.
Police probe however revealed that kidnapping notes sent from the victim’s phone number to Mr. Aggrey and to some relatives showed the messages were sent in a location closer to the couple’s home at the KNUST campus.
Dr. Aggrey during the interrogation allegedly admitted he sent the messages under threat from one Rukky, who threatened to harm his family if he didn’t. He also admitted to taking his wife somewhere close to the Volta lake to keep her safe, however, failed to tell the police her exact location.
