Hearts Get Boos From Fans After Relegation Survival

After narrowly escaping a drop from the Ghana Premier League (GPL) for the second consecutive time, top-flight club Hearts of Oak endured boos from unhappy fans after their win against Bechem United.

The game hosted at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in Bechem on June 16, 2024, saw Hearts coming from behind to claim all three crucial points for their survival.

Emmanuel Owusu put the home side in the lead in half an hour mark but Kofi Agbesimah cancelled it out in three minutes.

It did not take long after recess when Bismark Edjeodji restored the lead to Bechem; however, a desperate Hearts of Oak cancelled it out in the 70th minute when Kelvin Assibey rifled home their second goal of the day.

The winner was found by forward Yaw Baafi four minutes later. The Phobians finished 14th in the 2023/2024 season surviving on 45 points after 34 games.

Their unimpressive campaign this season got fans registering their displeasure in boos after their last match on Sunday.

Videos showed some fans booing at them and others levelling unprintable words at the team as their bus exited the park’s premises in Bechem.

Meanwhile, Bofoakwa Tano, Accra Great Olympics and Real Tamale United (RTU) could not survive relegation with their 33, 44 and 31 points, respectively.
