Health Minister Must Apologise to Tamale Teaching Hospital Staff He Humiliated- Minority

The Minority in Parliament have demanded an immediate apology from Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister for Health to Dr Valentine Akwulpwa, the head of the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Dr Akwulpwa was confronted in public by the Minister over the death of a patient over the weekend.
Videos from the encounter captured the Minister fuming over an alleged “rude” attitude by the “dedicated and highly respected” neurologist- among only four- serving the entire northern sector.
According to the Minority on the Health Committee of Parliament, the action of the Minister was “unprofessional”.
“This conduct was not only disrespectful to Dr Akwulpwa but also profoundly inconsiderate to the family of the deceased. Matters of mortality and clinical accountability must be handled with the utmost sensitivity and confidentiality.
“The Minister’s public outburst was demeaning, inappropriate, and a breach of the decorum that must govern professional interactions in healthcare. Every well-meaning medical practitioner would rightly view this as a collective affront—not just to Dr. Akwulpwa, but to the dignity of the entire medical profession.”
It further emphasised this has the propensity to discourage healthcare professionals from embracing service in under-resourced regions across the country.
It added, “We further call on the Minister to formally apologise to Dr Valentine Akwulpwa and the staff of the Tamale Teaching Hospital for the unprofessional manner in which the visit and subsequent discussions were conducted.”
