Health Minister Fumes Over “Rude” Behaviour By Tamale Teaching Hospital Staff

The Minister for Health, Hon Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has fumed at an alleged rude behaviour by the Head of the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Dr Valentine.

The Minister in the company of one other MP and officials visited the hospital over the alleged negligence that caused the death of a patient over the weekend.

However, upon a confrontation of the HoD, the Minister appeared dissatisfied with the attitude the former displayed toward him.

A video which has since gone viral captured the Minister and Hon Alhassan Suhuyini, the MP for Tamale North Constituency, expressing disappointment over the attitude of the male staff.

He therefore opined that patients endure ruder attitudes at the hands of the staff.

“Even the Minister, me, look at the way you are behaving towards,” the Health Minister said as others tried pleading with him.

“How can you behave like this? It means that he is doing worse things here…There is a problem. There is a problem here,” he said as he got whisked away from the cameras and scenes.

Death
According to the preliminary findings by the Management of the medical facility, the said patient was referred from another facility and required a specialized procedure that is not yet available at TTH.

Additionally, it said all four of the facility’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, which serve the entire Northern Ghana, were fully occupied at the time of the patient’s arrival.

It has since constituted an internal team to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, it announced in a statement.
