GWL Urges Customers to Prioritize Timely Water Bill Payments in Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer and Communication Officer for Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Ebenezer Padi Narh, has urged customers across the region to ensure timely payment of their water bills to maintain a reliable supply.

Speaking in an interview with Kofi Boakye on Opemsuo Radio, Mr. Narh explained that the work of GWL is regulated under the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) through LI 2413, which outlines the rights and responsibilities of both the utility and its customers.

“Our work as a water utility is regulated, and it is also based on an agreement between us and our customers. Each month, we provide water, and in return, customers are expected to pay their bills,” he said.

He highlighted that GWL has put multiple systems in place to make payment convenient, including a 24/7 app, partnerships with banks, pay points across the region, and a simple short code *1010# with no charges.

“Paying bills is essential. Just as people prioritize electricity payments, water is even more critical how many people can survive three days without water? We encourage all customers to treat water payment as a necessity,” Mr. Narh emphasised.

He further explained that from the 20th to the end of each month, GWL conducts revenue mobilization, during which accounts that remain unsettled may have their water supply disconnected. Customers who settle outstanding balances, along with any applicable penalties, have their supply reconnected within 24 to 48 hours depending on logistics.

Mr. Narh urged all residents to pay their bills promptly to avoid disruptions.
