Guru Wins UG SCR Presidency Race
Ghanaian rapper Maradona Adjei Yeboah has won the University of Ghana (UG) Students Representative (SRC) President.
Together with his Vice-Presidential Candidate, Jeffery Adu Yeboah, he garnered 9455 votes representing 50.7% of 18659 votes.
He posted the results of the election on his Facebook page on Wednesday, September 18 and expressed his profound appreciation to all his supporters.
“Thank you, God. Thank you team nkz. Thank you team maralit. Thank you ug. We made it.”
This victory did not come on a silver platter as Guru and his Vice both got disqualified from the race after vetting on the basis of their non-residential status.
However, he fought back the move with a petition to the Electoral Commission and the Office of the Dean of Students Affairs of the institution on Monday, August 19, 2024 and successfully secured an injunction against the election temporarily.
Earlier this week, Guru announced he had secured a ruling in his favour saying, “Guru NKZ is back in the UG SRC Presidential race.”
Guru isn’t the first celebrity to win an SCR Presidency race. In 2022, reggae and dancehall artiste Samini won the SRC Presidency race of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
