GTEC Shuts Down Royal Nursing College

The Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC) has closed down the Royal Nursing College at Tafo Nyhiaeso in the Ashanti Region following inspection.

The closure follows the failure of Management to furnish the needed documentation to confirm the institution’s accreditation status, it has been reported.

According to GTEC, the college lacks accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council and did not comply with a directive issued in June 2024 to halt the admission of new students.

The institution is said to have operated without proper registration with the relevant regulatory bodies, raising serious concerns over programme administration and academic standards.

It has been reported that some management members of the institution were arrested by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, who accompanied GTEC officials to the school.

GTEC officials emphasised that the measure was necessary to protect students and uphold educational regulations.

It intends to transfer affected students to other accredited institutions, while making special provisions to allow final-year students to complete their programmes.
