GTEC Flags 6 UG Learning Centres as Unaccredited

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has flagged six learning centres of the University of Ghana as unaccredited facilities.

According to the Commission, these facilities are running educational programmes without the requisite accreditation.

The involved facilities are in Koforidua, Cape Coast, Tamale, Ho/Tsito, Wa and Sunyani.

In a statement, the Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance, Dr Emmanuel Oware Nyarko, warned that all qualifications issued by these centres are not recognised for employment, further education, or promotion.

In addition, GTEC ordered 11 institutions, including the Institute of Business Management and Journalism (Kumasi), Rural Development College (Kwaso), University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (Bunso), Kings and Queens Medical College (Akosombo), and Springs College (Labone).

According to the Commission, these institutions do not meet the required accreditation standards.

Meanwhile, it cited 26  other institutions for operating with expired institutional accreditation.

Among them are Abbeam Institute of Technology (Kasoa), Lakeside University College (Accra), ILMA Institute of Science and Technology (Accra), Presbyterian Nurses’ Training College (Bawku), and Holy Spirit College of Education (Ho).
