Graduation: UG Says Procurement Delay Curtailed Medallions and Scroll Holders Distribution

The University of Ghana (UG) has explained the motivation behind its failure to provide graduands with medallions and scroll holders during its recent congregation.
In a statement, the institution pointed out procurement delays.
“It must be noted that the University, in an official notice dated February 10, 2025, informed the graduands of the February 2025 congregation ceremonies of procurement delays, which would affect the distribution of medallions and scroll holders during the sessions.
“The statement further captured the assurance of the University to make available to graduates the scroll holders and medallion at the appropriate time.”
This response follows a JoyNews report to the effect that the University had collected over GHC11 million in graduation fees without providing medallions and scroll holders to graduands.
The UG stated that the claims are misleading and do not reflect the facts.
It further explained that with the graduation fee of GHC500 paid by the 15,776 graduands, a total of GHS7,888,000 and not GHC11 million would be raked.
This amount, it noted, covers the rental of Graduation Gown Set; Congregation Publication; Graduation Medallion; Scroll Holder; University Souvenir; Water; and Administrative Overheads.
“We want to put on record that the University provided all the above-listed items except for the medallions and scroll holders.”
It furthered, “The University remains committed to upholding the highest standards in all its operations, including the organisation of graduation ceremonies. We assure our graduands that every effort is being made to deliver the outstanding items promptly.”
