GRA Targets Night Businesses, Underground Economy In VAT Compliance Exercise

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) says it is targeting night businesses and the underground economy in a VAT compliance exercise this month.
It intends to deploy a special task force to carry out monitoring and enforcement exercises to ensure tax compliance by these businesses.

“These monitoring and enforcement exercises are part of GRA’s commitment to promoting transparency, safeguarding the public interest and ensuring compliance with the tax laws,” it said in a statement.

As part of the exercise, the GRA will undertake enforcement exercises such as checking the issuance of VAT invoices and carrying out test purchases at the premises of VAT-registered businesses.

“This is to ensure that VAT-registered businesses issue VAT invoices as required under section 41 of the VAT Act, 2013 (Act 870),” it said, urging cooperatives to cooperate fully and encouraging customer to always demand their VAT invoices.

The Authority also reminded the general public of its Informant Award Scheme, which aims at rewarding persons who provide credible information leading to the recovery of revenue.
