Govt Will Face Harsher Accountability Standard Over Unserious Galamsey Fight-Franklin Cudjoe

The President and Chief Executive Officer of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, Franklin Cudjo, has warned that the government risks facing stricter accountability standards over its lackadaisical response to illegal mining in the country.

He observes that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is conforming to the same unpopular attitude towards the menace as the previous administration.

“It seems as though the NDC has started singing the same lullaby in dealing with galamsey as the NPP did when it should be rocking discordant and noisy music to chase galamsayers away,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

According to him, the government will be held on a higher scale of accountability than the former, as it has apportioned GHC50m to the fight.

“Please, NDC, you will be held to a higher standard of accountability because this year’s budget gifted you GHC50m to fight the menace, when the NPP received GHC10m last year.”

Cudjoe seeks a stern action by the government to root out illegal mining, also known as galamsey, rather than what he described as “fancy names like Blue Water marines or Red Sea toads”.

“Just deal with Galamsey!” he demanded.
