Govt Undertaking “Last-minute” Recruitments- Mahama Transition Team

The transition team of President-elect, John Dramani Mahama has accused the outgoing government of going against agreements and undertaking last-minute recruitments.

According to the team, an agreement was reached at the second meeting of the joint Transition Team held on Friday, December 13, 2024, to the effect that last-minute recruitments, payments and transfers, promotion and other actions must be cleared with the Joint Transition Team.

However, it noted that the NPP government has defied the agreement and “continues to undertake these activities without recourse to the agreement”.

In a statement, it said some of these actions have been backdated.

It has therefore decided to reverse such payments and recruitments when it takes over power from January 7, 2025.

“The Transition Team of the President-elect wishes to state emphatically, that given the bad faith displayed try the government, all these payments, recruitments, transfers and promotions, some of which have been backdated, will be reversed and, where necessary, pubic officials responsible for them held to strict account when a formal transfer of power takes place.”

It further cautioned all public officials to resist pressure from the current government to engage in these acts, threatening they could attract severe consequences when the new government takes office.

The government has however debunked these claims.

According to the Minister for Information and Spokesperson for the Government’s Transition Team, Fatima Abubakar, no recruitment has taken place since December 7.

“Since the election, not a single warrant has been issued for the recruitment of any persons…The Interior Ministry and the Health Ministry have already issued public releases informing nurses to go onto the portal to start their recruitment processes,” she is quoted as saying by JoyNews.
