Govt to Recruit 7000 New Teachers

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced preparations to recruit 7000 graduates from the colleges of education.
It follows clearance by the Ministry of Finance.
“I am happy to note and announce that the Ministry of Education has received clearance and approval from the Ministry of Finance for the recruitment of teachers across the country. We will be recruiting at least 7,000 teachers,” he said at a press conference on April 1, 2026.
The government intends to run an open, transparent and competitive recruitment exercise for graduates from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts.
Interested graduates will have to apply for placement, he stated, adding that interest will be given to persons ‘willing and ready’ to serve in deprived and underserved areas across the country.
The Minister also announced plans to employ 1,200 faculty members across the public universities in a limited recruitment exercise.
This exercise, he said, would be used to replace staff.
“Many of our institutions of higher learning, the universities, have not had the opportunity to replace staff, including members of faculty. Part of the approval from the Finance Ministry, we will allow all tertiary institutions, some limited recruitment to beef up their faculties and to renew their faculties as we continue to work.”
