Govt Renews Bawku Curfew as Asantehene Prepares to Submit Mediation Report to Mahama

The Ministry of Interior has renewed curfew on Bawku and its environs in the lead up to the submission of a mediation report to President John Dramani Mahama by the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
According to the sector minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, it became necessary following advice by the National Security Council.
The curfew hours are from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am, effective Monday, December 15, 2025.
It also announced a total ban on carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons in the Bawku Municipality and its environs.
“Any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” it communicated.
It added, “Government calls on the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.”
Meanwhile, the Asantehene is currently in the country’s capital to hand over the report.
