Gov’t Procures 24,534 Pieces of Equipment for Free Primary Health Care Delivery Project

The government has procured 24,534 medical equipment sets to be deployed across the country as part of preparations for the commencement of the government’s free primary healthcare initiative.

The equipment will be distributed to health facilities nationwide to strengthen service delivery and improve access to essential healthcare.

They were inspected by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, last week, who said the distribution exercise is aimed at retooling government hospitals and enhancing their capacity to deliver quality care.

He noted that the initiative reflects the government’s dedication to building a resilient healthcare system that prioritises preventive care and early treatment.

Among the equipment are baby incubators, radiant warmers, and oxygen concentrators for resuscitating newborns after delivery; X-ray machines; vital sign monitors for checking blood pressure, temperature, etc.; glucometers for measuring blood sugar levels for diabetes screening; and Patient monitors.

The rest are infusion devices, laboratory analysers, delivery beds, hospital beds and ultrasound.

A statement by the Ministry of Health said the intervention forms a key part of efforts to ensure that primary healthcare services are readily available and accessible to all Ghanaians.

The rollout of the equipment is anticipated to significantly boost the efficiency of healthcare delivery at the primary level, paving the way for the successful implementation of the free primary healthcare policy.
