Govt Cancels ¢3.6 Billion Arrears – Finance Minister

The Government of Ghana has decided to cancel GH¢3.6 billion of GH¢68.7 billion bill of arrears that was left behind by the previous administration.

The cancellation follows identified irregularities exposed by an ongoing audit by the Ghana Audit Service, EY and PWC.

According to the Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, the 85%-completed audit found errors, duplications, and non-compliance with PFM and Procurements Rules.

In addition, an amount of GH¢562.6 million is without adequate supporting documents, while GH¢27.3 billion is pending validation.

Meanwhile, a total of GH¢28.3 billion has been validated for payment, he revealed.

“Mr. Speaker, the audit is expected to be completed by the end of August 2025. Once finalised, we will update the House on the findings and outcomes,” he told the House.
