Govt Announces Plans to Evacuate Students In Bawku

The government of Ghana has announced plans to evacuate students in Bawku.

It follows the imposition of a 16-hour curfew on Bawku, Nalerigu and its environs.

The curfew is, among other things, to facilitate the evacuation of all students in various educational institutions in affected areas, acknowledging that some of these students had been targeted in the Bawku conflict.

The curfew will take effect from 2pm to 6am effective today, Sunday, 27th July, 2025, until further notice.

In an earlier statement, the Presidency said it had adopted peace enforcement in Bawku in place of peacekeeping due to the recent escalation of violence, which could derail the resolution process.

“The Ghana Armed Forces have been deployed to maintain law and order, as we intensify curfews to ensure public safety.”
