GNFS to Handle Alex King Nartey’s Disciplinary Action- Frank Amoakohene

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Frank Amokohene has disclosed that an internal disciplinary action has been initiated against Alex King Nartey, a member of the Public Relations Department of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

It follows some comments by the officer against the Minister following a fire outbreak at Adum in Kumasi last week. The comments by the officer which he repeated on various media platforms have been deemed unsavoury.

In a social media post, Dr Amokohene said the GNFS had reached out to him to apologise.

“Following remarks by a National Fire Service (NFS) Public Relations team member based at the National Headquarters in Accra, the National Commander has called to apologize and reaffirm their commitment to harmonious collaboration.”

Additionally, he was assured that all disciplinary actions would be managed by the National Headquarters.

Meanwhile, the Minister on March 24 morning received the Fire Service Commander and his senior officers over the recent fire incident at Adum PZ in Kumasi.

 

He proposed the formation of a Taskforce and Rapid Response Unit comprising the Fire Service, Police, and NADMO to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and to create accessible vehicular routes in the PZ area.

He also suggested personnel Support through YEA and NSS.

“I committed to engaging with headquarters to develop a program that channels personnel from the Youth Employment Agency and National Service Scheme into public education, engagement, and operational duties related to fire safety.”

Additionally, he called for logistical support.
