GMA Condemns Lockdown of Northern Regional Hospital by Town Folks

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has condemned the attack on the Northern Regional Hospital by some youth in the town.
In a viral video, the irate youth accused the Management of the facility of mismanagement and locked up the office of the Medical Director and other administrative offices and barricaded the Outpatients Department.
“The GMA strongly condemns the lawless acts of the group, which put the lives of patients and staff as well as the safety of property in danger.”
Calling for the arrest of the perpetrators, it stated that the growing culture of youth groups storming health facilities to lock up offices endangers the lives of both patients and health workers.
It therefore called on Traditional leaders to call the youth to order and work with the facility managers to help resolve genuine concerns at the facility through appropriate channels.
“The Association reiterates that there are clearly laid down processes and procedures to resolve concerns or grievances about management or service delivery within health facilities rather than resorting to violence.”
It also called on the leadership of the Ghana Health Service to immediately ensure adequate protection of the Medical Director and all staff while resolving any concerns.
“The GMA is closely monitoring the situation in the facility and will take necessary actions in due course should the threat to doctors and other health workers persist,” it warned.
