Give Me 99% Votes; Mahama Begs NDC Delegates
Presidential hopeful, John Dramani Mahama, has asked delegates of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for 99% votes in the yet-to-be conducted Presidential Primary.
He made the statement during his campaign tour in the Volta Region after its launch on Thursday, March 2.
According to the 2020 Flagbearer of the NDC, the 99% votes will reassure him of the party’s support.
Majority of NDC members including Members of Parliament and some leading members have openly endorsed the former President.
However, it is unknown how the primary scheduled for May 13 will turn out.
“If you give me 99% of your votes, it will be a clear statement that the NDC is solidly behind one candidate”, a portion of a statement from the Office of Mr Mahama said while communicating his campaign schedule.
He is contesting three others including former Finance Minister Kwabena Duffuor, former Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Kojo Bonsu and Ernest Kwaku Kobeah for the flagbearership.
Launching his campaign, he stated that Ghana “needs experience and not experiment”, leveraging on his former position as president.
He believes his contenders will only undertake trials with the country when they get the mandate from the party and subsequently from the country.
“Ghana does not need a try-me-too leader…Our country at this time urgently needs a leader with an unwavering desire to get things in a no frills no thrills business-like manner. Not one enamoured with sloganeering excessive partisanship and for personal comfort and shallow populism.”
He added, “I’m ready to be the kind of President that Ghanaians are looking for. In our present situation, it is no longer sufficient to sit on the sidelines and offers suggestions which are most often ignored. I’m therefore coming before you in all humility and in response to the calls from my party and the generality of the people of Ghana to offer myself to serve this country and its people that I love dearly by first putting myself up for election in the oncoming NDC election.”
“Ghana needs someone who will not be given an orientation and excursion to the flagstaff House”, he emphasised.
Mr Mahama has, since the launch of his campaign, visited five constituencies including Afadzato South, Hohoe, Kpando, North Dayi and South Dayi.
He is scheduled to visit Central Tongu, Akatasi South, Akatasi North, Ketu North and Agotime Ziope constituencies.
