GHS: No Ebola In Ghana

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has dismissed speculations that Ghana has recorded cases of Ebola in the Northern Region.

The speculations sparked after the Public Health Emergency Response Team was deployed to the region.

But at a news conference on June 22, 2022, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Kumah Aboagye said the news was false.

“We don’t have any Ebola cases”, he stated.

He explained that the deployment of the Public Health Emergency Response Team to the Northern region was in line with the GHS’s routine simulations.

“We don’t wait for the thing to happen. We do simulations that mean should I contract Ebola today, is my system ready. That was an exercise being carried out in Tamale. Should there be an Ebola outbreak, will the system be ready, will the labs be ready, will all the surveillance people be ready. That was what somebody misconstrued as a real outbreak”, he explained.

He noted that such activities are routinely carried out with contagious diseases to test the effectiveness of their systems.
