GHS Issues Tips to Stay Healthy Ahead of Dry Season

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has issued precautions to keep Ghanaians healthy in the approaching dry season.

It warned that the harmattan weather poses key health risks, including Skin Problems, Dehydration, Respiratory Issues, Eye Problems, and Meningitis.

The GHS therefore advised the public to moisturise the skin with oil-based products such as shea butter to prevent dryness; Drink plenty of water to maintain proper hydration; and eat water-rich foods regularly, including fruits like watermelon and meals like soups.

It also recommended the wearing of face masks in dusty environments to reduce inhalation of dust particles; avoiding dusty areas, limiting outdoor activities, and wearing masks at all times for asthma patients; using sunglasses or clear protective glasses to shield the eyes from dust; and washing hands frequently.

It further recommended prompt medical care at the nearest health facility if feeling unwell.

“The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service remain committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of all Ghanaians during the harmattan season and beyond. We encourage everyone to follow these health tips for a safe and healthy season,” it stated.
