Ghanaians in Lebanon Advised to Evacuate “Immediately”
The government of Ghana has directed all Ghanaians living in Lebanon to as a matter of urgency flee the Asian country following Israel’s targeted attack in the capital.
In a statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration said the trend was becoming a “matter of great concern” due to the potential danger it may pose to Ghanaians living there.
It, therefore, urged all citizens to pack out and return home with those without travel documents directed to contact the Embassy of Ghana in Cairo or the Ghana Honorary Consulate in Beirut for Emergency Travel Certificates.
“Considering the deteriorating situation, the Government of Ghana encourages all Ghanaian nationals in Lebanon to take advantage of the limited available flights in Lebanon to immediately leave the country.
“Towards this end, the Government wishes to encourage Ghanaians living there who may not have travel documents to contact the Embassy of Ghana in Cairo, Egypt or the Ghana Honorary Consulate in Beirut, Lebanon to obtain Emergency Travel Certificates.
“Those who may require assistance to obtain Exit Permits may similarly contact the Embassy or the Consulate through the following contacts: Embassy of Ghana in Cairo, Egypt Telephone: +201554414228, +201095903184, +201007923232 and +201095053354”
As part of a recent escalation against the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah that began last month, Israel launched strikes in Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, over the weekend.
Twenty-three (23) people were killed and 93 wounded in the strikes on Saturday and overnight into Sunday, BBC cites the Lebanese Ministry of Health to have put out.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah is reported to be retaliating with rockets across the border into northern Israel. CNN reports that the explosion has displaced hundreds of thousands of both Lebanese and Israelis in the targeted areas.
