“Ghana will benefit more from Marijuana exportation than Cocoa” – NPP MP

The New Patrotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliment (MP) for Effiduase Asokore in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie has run down Ghana’s major export income foreign exchange earner, Cocoa against the “illicit” drug business, marijuana.
“As a medical doctor, I am ready to debate anyone who thinks Cocoa farming has more economic benefits than Cannibis farming”, the lawmaker threw a challenge on Opemsuo FM in Kumasi.
According to him, his research has shown that Cannibis has more economic benefits to Ghana hence, the government position to legalize it to bring employment and foreign exchange to any  interested farmer and the country respectively.
“We  saw as a Committee that ten grammes of Cannibis will earn Ghana more than ten dollars to both farmers and the government per our check therefore necessary to grow it and export them”, the member of Parlimentary Select Committee on Health told host, George Opoku Mensah during One-on-One interview.
“One plant of Cannibis tree gives million of dollars comparatively to other cash crops and for me as a medical doctor, I will support the legalization any day anytime”, Hon. Nana Ayew Afriyie vowed.
Ghana has legalized the use of
cannabis for health and industrial purposes as it joins other African countries hoping to derive economic and health benefits from the substance.
On Friday the country’s Parliament passed into law the Narcotics Control Commission Bill, 2019.
The law now makes the country’s Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) a Commission with enhanced powers to oversee the industrial use of some narcotic substances.
