Ghana to Receive US$13M Grant for Electricity Supply Stabilisation

Ghana is set to receive a grant of ¥1.92 billion, that is, US$13 million from Japan, the Minister for Foreign Affairs (MFA), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced.

This follows the appending of the Exchange of Notes between the Minister and His Excellency Yoshimoto Hiroshi, the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana on March 10, 2025.
The amount is designated for the Stabilization of Electricity Supply in Tamale City, he said in a Facebook post.

“This morning, I signed an Exchange of Notes with His Excellency Yoshimoto Hiroshi, the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, to unlock a grant of 1.92billion Japanese Yen (US$13million) for the Stabilization of Electricity Supply in Tamale City.”

According to him, the project and many others under discussion highlight the outstanding bond of friendship between Ghana and Japan.

The objective of the Project is to stabilize the power supply and contribute to the socio-economic development and strengthening of the basic infrastructure in Tamale, Northern Region by constructing a new substation and distribution network.
