Ghana to Process 50% of Cocoa Beans Effective 2026/27 Crop Season

Ghana will later this year commence a local processing of half of the cocoa crops harvested in the country, the Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced.

To make this feasible, he said the government was prioritising the revival of the state-owned Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) to become the leading processor of the cocoa beans.

In addition, he said domestic cocoa processors had been engaged to help reach the threshold.

“I have only this morning, together with the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, met with domestic cocoa processors who have indicated their capacity and willingness to process more than 50% cocoa produced in Ghana,” he said at a presser on February 12, 2026.

According to him, an agreement has been reached on the immediate implementation of this new policy.

Meanwhile, the Minister noted that the cabinet had directed that, with immediate effect, the remainder of the beans for the 2025/26 crop season be allocated for domestic processing.
