Ghana to Open Trade Office in China – Trade Minister

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has announced that Ghana will open a new Trade Office in Nanjing, Shandong Province, China, in 2026.

She said the move is aimed at promoting and strengthening bilateral trade and investment relations between Ghana and China.

Ofosu-Adjare made this disclosure when the Outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, paid a farewell call on her in Accra on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Receiving the envoy, the Minister stated that Ghana is ready to sign the Zero-Tariff Agreement with China, and expressed her utmost appreciation to Ambassador Tong Defa for his close engagement with the Ministry during his tenure.

She commended the Ambassador for his dedication to attracting investment into Ghana, noting that trading in local currencies has already begun between the two countries.

“If we are able to trade in our own currencies, Ghana’s currency will be strengthened, because the bulk of our trading goes to China,” she said.

Hon. Ofosu-Adjare wished Ambassador Tong Defa well in his future endeavours and expressed optimism about the continued strengthening of Ghana–China relations.

For his part, Ambassador Tong Defa applauded the Minister for her efforts in deepening China–Ghana bilateral cooperation. He revealed that more Chinese companies are eager to invest in Ghana and expressed confidence that Ghana’s exports to China would increase.

“I am happy that Chinese businesses are doing very well under President Mahama,” the Ambassador noted.
