Ghana to Get $300 Million Modern 5-Star Hotel- Ablakwa

According to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s hospitality industry will soon witness the spring up of a US$300million green ultra-modern iconic 5-Star Hotel.

This is one of the numerous outcomes of President John Dramani Mahama’s engagement with investors during his historic three-day visit to Singapore earlier this year.

It was a commitment made by Asia Pacific’s leading luxury hotel group, Shangri-La.

The facility will have a grand mall for local and international brands and a convention centre to make Ghana the West African conference destination, he wrote in a Facebook post.

Additionally, the Minister said some 4,000 jobs are expected to be created through OLAM’s projected US$200million investment in Ghana.

The projects include a new 43,000 metric ton pasta processing plant to be opened next year and feed processing plants for poultry and aquaculture.

There is also commitment to construct a 10,000 capacity students hostel for the University of Ghana; enhance security and scanners at Kotoka International Airport; cooperate to expand Tema Port and revive the Tema dry dock; Construct of a new jetty for oil ships; and cooperate to establish Testing Labs across Ghana to ensure only certified quality materials are used to construct durable roads.

There were pledges to also collaborate to launch a common payment platform to boost trade and international commerce between Africa and Asia; establish a model Accra Institute of Technology; and execute projects under our bilateral Carbon Credit Agreement.

The two countries have also signed an MoU for regular high-level political consultations, agreed to finalise negotiations on a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) and secured support for ORAL through a capacity-building cooperation for forensic investigators.
