Ghana Takes On Namibia Today

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium will later today witness the degree of the Black Stars’ preparation and readiness for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament (AFCON) as they face off against Namibia in a friendly.

They have been engaged in rigorous training at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Kumasi since last week.

The friendly match scheduled for 8 pm will also enable Ghana to prepare for the tournament which takes place in a few days.

It will be Chris Hughton’s side’s first friendly game in three months. The team’s last friendly against the United States of America (USA) ended in a humiliating 4-0 defeat on October 18.

It preceded a 2-0 defeat to Mexico on October 15 in the USA.

All 27 players are in the country and preparing towards the Nations Cup which begins on January 13 and ends on February 11.

The Black Stars will have their opener against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024, and take on Egypt four days later before their final group match against Mozambique on January 22.

Ghana will be seeking to extend their wins to five after last winning the tournament in 1982, while Egypt longs for an eighth record.

The tournament will be hosted by Ivory Coast.
