Ghana Records One Death In Renewed MPOX Outbreak

Ghana has recorded its first death following the renewed outbreak of Mpox, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed.
In an update, it said that as of July 22, 2025, 23 new cases had been confirmed, bringing the total to 257.
“Unfortunately, 1 new death has been reported.”
In response to the rise in cases, the respective Regional Health Directorates have promptly activated public health measures, including contact tracing, to prevent further spread of the virus.
“We take this opportunity to remind the public that Mpox is a viral disease transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated materials.”
Common symptoms include rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
“The Government of Ghana remains committed to safeguarding public health. Drawing on our experience in managing similar outbreaks, we will continue to implement appropriate measures to protect the health and well-being of all residents.”
The public has since been strongly advised to
-Practice regular hand hygiene,
-Avoid close contact with individuals exhibiting symptoms such as rashes,
-Report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility immediately.
-Wash hands regularly with soap and water.
