Ghana Navy Hands Over 37 Intercepted Sacks of Suspected Indian Hemp to NACOC

The Ghana Navy has handed over 37 sacks of suspected Indian Hemp to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).

The substance was intercepted in a canoe during a maritime interdiction operation on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Goi near Ada.

In a statement, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) said its interdiction followed a credible lead.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) tracked and pursued the suspected canoe, intercepting it at the beach of Goi, South of Sege, near Ada as it attempted to beach-land,” adding that the suspects fled upon seeing the SBS operatives abandoning the canoe with 37 sacks of compressed substances suspected to be Indian Hemp.

They have since been handed over to the NACOC, whose preliminary assessment indicated an estimated 70 parcels per sack.

Other items recovered and handed over to the Commission for further action included 2 gallons of premix fuel, 5 empty gallons, and an outboard motor.

“The Ghana Navy, as part of the Ghana Armed Forces, reassures the public that it remains fully committed to safeguarding Ghana’s territorial integrity and interests.”
