Ghana, Japan Signs ¥402 Million Scholarship Grant Agreement

Ghana has signed onto the Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) Programme with an amount of ¥402 million grants expected to be disbursed.

The agreement was reached and signed on June 3, 2025, between the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and the Executive Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Miyazaki Katsura.

“This morning, I had the honour of representing the Government of Ghana in signing a ¥402 million grant agreement with the Government of Japan under the Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) Programme.”

In a statement, the Finance Minister of Ghana expressed gratitude to Japan, adding that the partnership was a testament to a shared vision of investing in people to drive transformation.

“On behalf of the Government and People of Ghana, I extended our sincere gratitude to Japan for its unwavering support toward Ghana’s development goals.

He used the occasion to update the Japanese partners on the country’s economic progress.

“We expect improvements in our sovereign credit ratings soon, supported by falling inflation, declining debt levels, and renewed investor confidence.”
