Ghana Football Association drops in CAF’s 5-year ranking for 2026–27 Club Season

The governing body of football in Ghana, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has slipped in the association ranking for the 2026–27 Confederation of African Football (CAF) club competition.

The CAF 5-year ranking system is used by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to decide the number of clubs that each member association may enter its club football championships.
Ghanaian clubs have performed poorly in the CAF club competitions over the last two seasons.
Samartex and Nsoatreman could not make a significant impact, as the Timber Giants were knocked out in the second preliminary round against Raja Casablanca, and Constantine also eliminated Nsoatreman at the same level.
Bibiani Gold Stars and Asante Kotoko were the last clubs to represent Ghana in the previous CAF club competitions; the Miners were eliminated at the preliminary round against JS Kabylie, while Asante Kotoko got kicked out at the second preliminary stage against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco.
The Ghana Football Association is greatly harmed, especially as they were on the edge of progressing in the top twelve of the 5-year ranking after going from 27th position in the 2023/24 season to 14th place in the 2024/25 season.

The massive bounce of the Ghana Football Association was performances pulled out by Medeama SC and Dreams FC, with a solid group stage performance and a semi-final appearance.
Medeama Sporting Club earned the association an appreciable 1 point after being the last club in a group consisting of Al Ahly of Egypt, CR Belouizdad of Algeria and Tanzania’s Young Africans.
Dreams FC, after their appearance at the Semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, benefited the association with three points acquired, which gave a total of 4 points after the 2024/25 season.
An update on CAF’s 5-year ranking for the forthcoming season, 2026/27 indicates that Ghana has lost two positions to countries like Congo and Zambia. The Ghana Football Association is 16th with 12 points.
